  • Liberals, in lock-step with a sinless infallible leader, can't imagine economic disaster could happen unless conservatives cause it. All disagreement is racism.
Conservatives, diverse, leaderless, adrift and paranoid, don't believe we can survive liberal mania.
    Three scenarios:
    1. Conservatives are right. Massive liberal spending and borrowing will soon cause collapse, dollars worth nothing and widespread misery. It can happen.
    2. Liberals are right. Somehow, science will develop a GMO money tree. Or if conservatives get power, they will cut necessary support and cause terrible depression. That can happen.
    3. By careful control of fiscal and monetary policy, enough money can be printed to keep the economy going, and limited enough to prevent inflation. I heard a top economist touting this. I hope it's possible, but do we have a grand vizier who can do this magic?
I hope our supreme ruler knows the difference between debit and credit. Borrow and borrow, spend and spend, tax and tax! That will save us. — Ira Edwards, Medford
I was happy to see the Mail Tribune following up on its Sept. 4, 2012 article regarding the Central Point Cemetery. Hopefully the City of Central Point will now step up and purchase what can be a wonderful pioneer cemetery that the city can take pride in. I encourage the residents of Central Point and relatives of loved ones buried there to drive out to see what a disgrace the cemetery is today.
One of the first matters that needs to be accomplished is for the lawyers who currently own the cemetery to spend the $5,000 paid to them to have the damaged headstones restored. Why is this taking so long? It would help if the residents of Central Point contacted the city (mayor, council members, etc.) to make them aware of their concern.
A cleanup day is planned for this spring and everyone is invited to participate and show some community support for what could be a jewel of an asset to the city. — Jan Bailey, Medford
Seven years ago, then Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., voted against raising the debt ceiling and even spoke about it on the Senate floor before the Republican-controlled Senate voted 52-48 to increase it.
This is what he is quoted as saying on March 16, 2006: "The fact that we are here today to debate raising America's debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. Leadership means that the buck stops here. Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better. I, therefore, intend to oppose the effort to increase America's debt limit."
How many times has he flip-flopped since? It seems that many Americans have swallowed his crap and believed he would do better. He has proven them wrong. It's time for him to go on another vacation, permanently. — John L. Ogle, Grants Pass
