  • INDIANAPOLIS — Oregon State's wrestling team will head to next week's NCAA Championships with seven qualifiers, including five that have been seeded in the top 10.
OSU senior Mike Mangrum leads the way as the No. 3 seed at 141 pounds. Teammate Chad Hanke also got a high seed as No. 4 at heavyweight and Taylor Meeks was seeded fifth at 197 pounds.
OSU knew that it had qualified at least seven based on its performance at the Pac-12 meet. However, the Beavers did not pick up any at-large bids with the NCAA's official announcement.
Joining Mangrum, Hanke and Meeks at the NCAAs will be Scott Sakaguchi (149 pounds), RJ Pena (157), Cody Weishoff (174) and Ty Vinson (184).
Sakaguchi is seeded No. 7 in his weight class and Pena heads into the tournament as a No. 10 seed.
Mangrum, Meeks and Hanke all won individual titles at the Pac-12 meet in Tempe.
For Mangrum, it was his second straight conference crown. He's headed to nationals for the fourth time. Last year, he placed fifth.
Also making a return trip to NCAAs will be Sakaguchi and Pena, who will compete for a third time. Meeks, Hanke, and Vinson will each make their second appearance while Weishoff will be making his first.
It's the fourth straight year that coach Jim Zalesky will be taking at least a half-dozen wrestlers to nationals. OSU qualified six in 2010 and eight in both 2011 and 2012.
OSU is coming off a 10th-place finish last year — its highest placing nationally since 1998 when the Beavers were ninth.
