EUGENE — Brett Thomas went 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored to lead No. 16 Oregon to a 10-4 non-conference win over Texas State at PK Park on Wednesday night.
Thomas led Oregon's 12-hit attack, while J.J Altobelli went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored. Tyler Baumgartner scored two runs, going 1-for-3 with an RBI.
The Bobcats jumped out to an early lead, chasing starter Cole Wiper with three runs on six hits in two innings. After leaving the bases loaded in the first and not scoring, Texas State came up with three runs in the second.
Oregon got two of them back in the third on a balk and a wild pitch by the Bobcats.
The Ducks added four runs in the fourth to take a 6-3 lead. Thomas and Baumgartner started the rally with back-to-back doubles to tie the game at 3. After a walk and a sacrifice bunt moved Baumgartner to third and Ryan Hambright to second, Altobelli picked up two RBIs with a single to center to give the Ducks a two-run lead. Aaron Payne added an RBI single to score Altobelli and finish the push in the inning for Oregon.
OREGON STATE 6, SAN FRANCISCO 5 — At Corvallis, Dylan Davis drove in three and Brandon Jackson earned his third win with 22/3 innings of relief to give the third-ranked Oregon State baseball team a win over San Francisco.
Davis went 2-for-4 and drove in three runs, all coming in the first three innings of the game. He extended his season-long winning streak to eight games with his team-leading ninth multi-hit effort of the season.
Jackson, meanwhile, came on in relief of Taylor Starr in the fifth and limited USF (7-9) to four hits and two runs — both unearned — while striking out one. The righty improved to 3-0 on the year.
Max Engelbrekt earned his fourth save of the season after throwing the last two innings of the game. He allowed one hit and struck out one. The Dons managed their lone hit off Engelbrekt in the ninth and put runners on first and second with one down but the freshman lefty induced a 4-6-3 groundout to end the game.
