With a first-round playoff series on the line, Dan Doyle and the Southern Oregon Spartans hockey team left no doubt as to who would move on Sunday at The RRRink.

After a scoreless opening period, Doyle used an eight-minute stretch in the second period to post a hat trick, opening the flood gates for the Spartans as they advanced into the next round of the WSHL playoffs with a 7-0 victory over the Ogden Mustangs.

The Spartans (28-21) will begin their best-of-three series with the Idaho Junior Steelheads for the division crown at 7 p.m. Friday at Manchester Ice & Event Centre in Boise, Idaho. The Steelheads won the Northwest League with a 44-2 record.

Doyle's 1-2-3 run sparked the Spartans to score three more in the period. Ryan Devine, Jeff Salzbrunn and Wilheim Brodin each netted a goal in the frame, and Eligah Bordak tallied one more in the third period.

Goalie Austin Brihn was impressive in-goal for the Spartans, making 51 saves en route to a shutout victory.
