  • EAGLE POINT — Rogue River senior Kevin Murphy used seven birdies to edge steady North Medford junior Daniel Schuler in boys golf action Tuesday at Eagle Point Golf Course.
Murphy, who has signed to play for Oregon State next year, carded a 33 on the front nine to take the early advantage then fired a 36 on the back to complete his day with a 69, two shots better than Schuler. The Black Tornado golfer managed 14 pars during his round of 71.
"I expect him to have a really good solid year," North Medford head coach Kevin Klabunde said of Schuler. "He wants to play at the collegiate level so he knows this year has to be pretty solid for him to attract the attention of coaches for his résumé."
Buoyed by Schuler's effort, however, North Medford secured the team victory as all four scoring players carded an 86 or better. Taylor Klemp finished fourth in the individual scoring with a 75, one stroke behind Ashland's Matt Hedges, who competed in a strong foursome with Murphy, Schuler and South Medford's Noah Brooks.
Eagle Point's Glen Linder tied Rogue River's David Murphy with the fifth-best round as each shot a 78.
