Phillip James Van Keuren, 62, of Medford, Ore., passed away Monday, March 18, 2013, at Providence Medford Medical Center.
He was born July 28, 1950 in Baraboo, Wis. to Earl L. and Dorine L. Van Keuren. After high school he entered into the U.S. Navy and served during wartime. His two passions in life were being in the Navy and aboard ships, especially aboard the U.S.S. New Jersey. After retiring from the Navy as a Senior Chief, he enjoyed gardening, camping, reading, and walking. He achieved his Master Gardeners Certification and was preparing to help coordinate the community garden. He was an active member of the local Alano Club and AA and enjoyed helping other people focus on their sobriety as well.
He is survived by his wife, Susanne, (they were married in Las Vegas July 7, 1991); his children, Leah and Eric Van Keuren; two grandchildren, Leah and Sabrina Van Keuren; four step-children, Danny, Chris, Frances, and Wallace Bonner; mother, Dorine L. Van Keuren, of Sparta, Wis.; two sisters, Mary (Jim) Hendricks, of Tomah, Wis. and Sheri (Derek) Egeberg, of Yuma, Ariz.; and many extended family members. He was preceded in death by his father, Earl L. Van Keuren Sr. and brother, Earl L. Van Keuren Jr.
