Fred Hanstein was born in 1933 in Borger, Texas and lived a hardworking, ethical life for 80 years. He grew up in Oklahoma and California where he lived with his father Walter, mother Mabel, sister Elsie, and brother John.

Fred was drafted into the Army and went to Korea to serve his country. He met his Guardian Angel' Diana Bedard at a USO dance in Tacoma, Wash. They loved to dance, and were married in 1955. Two children joined their family, Sharon and David. They made their home in San Jose, Calif. until 1972 when they moved to Medford, Ore. There he continued his work as a brick mason and built many buildings and wonderful fireplaces in the Rogue Valley.

His family took advantage of the wonderful outdoors including hunting, fishing, riding motorcycles, and golfing. He was also a member of the Moose Lodge. He retired from his masonry business in 1995. Fred enjoyed cooking, making his mini meatloaf's', and took great care in creating his crockpot meals. Fred loved elephants and had a great interest in learning many things, like becoming a better golfer and all about the Bible which he studied daily and enjoyed very much.

His family expanded to include David's wife, Judi; Sharon's guy, Ed; two granddaughters, Tisheena (Jacoby) and Taileigh (Joel); and one great-grandson, Sam.

His generous loving heart stopped March 24, 2013, so he could make his trip to Heaven. He will be laid to rest at 2:00 p.m., Friday, March 29, 2013, at Eagle Point National Cemetery. We will miss him with all our hearts. In lieu of flowers, a donation in Fred's name can be made to Southern Oregon Humane Society or your favorite charity. Arrangements by Rogue Valley Funeral Alternatives.
