Local powerlifter Pecktol breaks deadlift world record

PORTLAND — Local powerlifter Alex Pecktol broke her previous world record in the deadlift at the World Association of Benchers and Deadlifters North American Championships on March 16.

The 17-year-old Pecktol, who attends Central Medford High, deadlifted 325 pounds to top the record of 310 pounds that she set in a competition in Las Vegas in November.

Pecktol, who competes in the 132-pound division for 16-17-year-olds, will next compete in a meet at the Ramada Medford and Convention Center on May 4. After that she'll compete in San Diego on June 4.

World competition is set for November in Reno, Nev.
