Medford police have arrested a man suspected of robbing a motel's front-desk clerk at gunpoint early Tuesday morning.

Investigators identified Andrew Dean Amaral, 22, as the suspect in the armed robbery, reported at 3:55 a.m. Tuesday at Millwood Inn.

The clerk, who was working alone at the front desk of the motel at 1030 N. Riverside Ave., Medford, told police that a man entered the lobby and completed a registration card to rent a room. When the clerk asked for payment for the room, the man pointed a pistol at the clerk, Medford police said in a news release.

The clerk gave the man an undisclosed amount of cash, and the man ran out, police said.

Officers found Amaral at 2:35 p.m. Tuesday in downtown Medford. He was arrested on a charge of first-degree robbery and lodged in the Jackson County Jail, where he remained Tuesday night on $1 million bail.
