  • Providence Medford Medical Center has been granted a three-year term of accreditation in echocardiography by the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission.
Echocardiography uses sound waves to study a patient's heart, helping detect possible life-threatening disorders. Through echocardiography, images can be produced showing the size of a patient's heart as well as its muscle and valve activity.
Alaska Air Group's Horizon Air, which stations more than 100 pilots and crew members in Medford, reported a 6.2 percent increase in March traffic. Horizon had 2.9 percent more seats available than in March 2012, and its planes flew at 80.9 percent capacity. Horizon also reported 90 percent of its flights arrived on time in March, compared with the 88.1 percent reported in March 2012.
The Rogue Valley's economic recovery trails other parts of the state, according to the latest Oregon Regional Economics Indexes released this week. Portland, Salem, Bend and the Eugene-Springfield areas all moved closer to the 1998 baseline established by economists at the University of Oregon.
The Rogue Valley measure suffered from a decline in the labor force. Ongoing declines in labor force negatively impact a region's long-term growth prospects, said Tim Duy, a University of Oregon economist, because the labor pool for potential employers is limited.
Low levels of housing permits continue to weigh on the Rogue Valley and Salem measures of activity.
