• South boys prevail at Roseburg meet

  • ROSEBURG — South Medford's boys track and field team received a pair of individual victories from Ethan Cannon and Kyle Larson to cruise by Roseburg but the Panthers girls came up shy in a tight meet Wednesday at Roseburg High.
    Despite winning 10 of the 17 events, South Medford's girls team was edged out 73-70. On the boys side, the Panthers secured an 84-61 triumph.
    Cannon finished first for the South boys in the 800 (2:07.32) and 1,500 meters (4:11.9), while Larson was first in the long jump at 20 feet, one-quarter inches and in the triple jump (42-43/4). Larson was also a member of the Panthers' long relay, which won in 3:31.91.
    On the girls' side, Carmen Mejia won the 200 (27.98) and 400 (1:01.10) while also playing a factor in both of South's winning relay squads. Montana Logue took first in the 300 hurdles (48.92) and high jump (4-6) and was part of the short relay.

    GP SWEEPS NORTH — At Grants Pass, North Medford's boys team won nine of the 17 events but Grants Pass' overall depth proved too much as the Cavemen scored a 74-67 win at Grants Pass High.
    In girls, Halley Folsom won a pair of events (300 hurdles and high jump) and North Medford claimed five overall in falling 105-34.
    Aaron Browne-Moore won the 200 in 23.24 seconds and was part of a winning short relay squad that included Luke Fotualli, who won the 110 hurdles and was on the winning long relay.

    CRATER SWEEPS — At Ashland, Crater sophomore Bailey Bascom won both the 100- and 200-meter dash to lead the Crater girls to a 94-47 victory over Ashland at the Ashland High School track.
    The Crater boys also prevailed, 100-42, as Kody Kinser won the 400 and helped the Comets' 4x400 relay team prevail in 3:40.57.
    Bascom won the 100 in 13.59 and the 200 in 27.46, nearly three seconds faster than runner-up Laurel Watson (30.13) of Ashland.

    The Pirate girls received individual wins from Lindsey Vermillion (800), Emma Amundsen (1,500) and Emma Hickman (shot put and discus).
