Russell E. McIntyre

Russell E. McIntyre, 87, passed away peacefully Tuesday, April 2, 2013. Russell was a descendant of the pioneer McKee family. He was born January 11, 1926, to Ernest and Helen McIntyre in Medford, Ore.

 

Russell was a lifelong resident of Jacksonville, Ore. and graduated from Jacksonville High School where he competed in athletics and played in the band. After high school he enlisted in the Navy ROTC and attended Gonzaga University and the University of Washington.

 

On March 23, 1947 he married Melba Ayres.


Russell owned the Jacksonville Market for many years and after selling the business, worked there until his retirement. He was a volunteer fireman for the Jacksonville Fire Department and retired as Fire Chief.


He was preceded in death by his sister, Luella Swanson, and brother, Ronald McIntyre.


He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Melba; children, Linda Sloan (John), of Roseburg, Ore., Becky Adelmann (Rich), of Portland, Ore., and Steve McIntyre, of Jacksonville; four grandchildren, Erika Sloan (Rob Balas), of San Francisco, Calif., Sara Sloan (Tim Murphy) of Berkeley, Calif., and Charlie and Aimee Adelmann, of Portland; and four great-grandchildren.


A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, April 6, 2013, at the historic Presbyterian Church in Jacksonville, Ore.


The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the staff and caregivers at Farmington Square and Asante Hospice for the exceptional, caring assistance provided to Russell and family.


In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make a donation to the church or charity of their choice.
