  • The Jackson County Sheriff's Department is targeting drivers on cell phones today.
Deputies are working near the intersection of Table Rock and Vilas roads to spot and stop drivers using phones while on the road. They expect to continue the special enforcement effort through 3 p.m.
The state law banning driver's use of hand-held cell phones first went into effect in January 2010. It requires drivers to rely on hands-free technology or pull over to take or make calls.
