Dublin-based singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Gerry O'Beirne makes his Ashland debut at 8 p.m. Friday, April 12, at The Playwright Public House, 258 A St.
Thanks to a little Irish luck, Ashland musician Jeff Jones was on holiday in Dingle, Ireland, at the same time O'Beirne was there on tour.
Jones, with his Ashland project, the Foxfire Trio, had recorded one of O'Beirne's songs, "Western Highway," and he was glad for the chance to see the artist in concert.
"I went and heard him in this 200-year-old rock church, St. James, and it was just him, and it was beautiful," Jones says.
O'Beirne plays six- and 12-string guitars, tiple (a 10-string mandolin) and ukulele, among other instruments. His original music is rooted in the Irish folk tradition but features contemporary chord structures and subject matter, as well as influences from all the places where he's lived.
Cover to the acoustic show in Ashland is $5. Call 541-488-9128.
