  • The South Medford girls tennis team swept in singles action en route to a 6-2 victory over cross-town rival North Medford in a Southwest Conference meet at North Medford High on Tuesday.
    Top-seeded Kelsey Bartlett defeated North's No. 1 Taylor Cavanagh, 6-0, 6-0, to lead the way.
    In doubles action, the Black Tornado's top pairing of Riley Finnegan and Abi Borg beat Halli Rousell and Rayna Carson, 6-2, 6-1. Vanna Chambers and Nikki Cummings, North's No. 2 squad, held off Brittany Reese and Erin Viera, 6-4, 6-3.
    Madelyn Duer and Rachel Forrest bounced back from a second-set loss to top Kayla Sain and Kali Curtis, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3, in the No. 4 match.

    ASHLAND 5, GRANTS PASS 3 — At Grants Pass, Ashland's No. 2 doubles team of Katy Barnard and Elana Cooper rallied from a 3-0 deficit in the third set to beat Brittany Blacksmith and Maria Palamino, 6-4, 2-6, 7-5, and clinch the team win for the Grizzlies.
    Ashland's Cass Christopher overcame an early deficit to beat Natasha Matola, 7-5, 6-4, in the No. 3 singles match.

    In No. 1 doubles, juniors Kyle Campbell and Ryan Hogan of North Medford (0-3-1, 0-2-1 SOH) prevailed over Blake Bartlett and Tanner Johnson, 6-3, 7-5.
    South Medford's record is 0-0-2 overall and 0-0-1 in league.

    EAGLE POINT WINS — At Bandon, Lindsay Neussl placed second overall to help Eagle Point win its first match of the season in a four-way golf meet at Bandon Crossing Golf Course Monday.
    Neussl shot a 97, while medalist Jessica Young of Gold Beach posted an 88.
    The Eagles registered a 449 team total to 504 for Bandon. Gold Beach and North Bend did not field full teams.
