For the first time in the three years of AOW, there are co-winners. Howson and Nielsen each collected 40 percent of the vote.
Howson, a senior, pitched a complete game and went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs as Ashland beat Philomath 5-2 to end a six-game losing streak.
She held the Warriors to one earned run on eight hits and struck out two.
Nielsen had big games in a pair of same-day wins, 9-3 over Hidden Valley and 22-3 over Springfield.
She was 2-for-4 in the first and 4-for-4 with four runs in the second.
