Deputies arrest man in pot grow

Jackson County sheriff's deputies Thursday arrested a man for growing more marijuana plants than allowed under Oregon's medical marijuana program.

Deputies received a tip that Michael Ray Hernandez, 28, was growing marijuana at a home in the 500 block of Mountain View Drive in Central Point. This was not his registered address, the Sheriff's Department said.

A search of the property turned up dozens of marijuana plants, processed buds and growing equipment. Hernandez does have an Oregon Medical Marijuana Program card but is not a registered grower, officials said.

Investigators seized 55 plants and 6.5 pounds of processes marijuana.

Hernandez, who is a registered sex offender, was cited for manufacture or marijuana, possession of marijuana and failure to register as sex offender.
