Jerry Miller, 84, went home to be with the Lord Thursday, April 4, 2013, surrounded by loved ones.

He was born October 15, 1928, in Los Angeles, Calif. to Samuel and Kathryn Miller. His mother later remarried, and he grew up in Hollywood, Calif. with his brother, Bob, stepfather, Ray Hicks, and mother, now Kathryn Hicks. Jerry earned a bachelor's degree from Cal Poly Technical Institute and also served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War aboard the U.S.S. Oriskany. He married his lifetime love Marilyn T. Miller January 11, 1964. He enjoyed a career as an operations planner for both Lockheed Aerospace in Sunnyvale, Calif. and Litton Control Systems in Grants Pass, Ore. Jerry had a beautiful singing voice and was a member of the Cal Poly Men's Chorus when in college, and later sang with the Rogue Valley Chorale for 26 years. Square dancing with Marilyn and golfing were his favorite pastime activities in his younger years. After retirement he still enjoyed golf and loved camping with his beautiful wife, Marilyn, and friends in the Good Sam Club. Jerry and Marilyn also enjoyed fellowship with their church friends as active members of the United Methodist Church.

Jerry is survived by his children, Diane Lewis (Jerry), Ed Kirk (Miriam), Randy Miller (Kathy), and Deborah Miller (John Ford); six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and his faithful companion, Smoky the dog. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marilyn; his brother, Bob; and his parents.

A memorial service will be held at Jerry's church, Upper Rogue United Methodist Church, 18977 Highway 62, Shady Cove, Ore., Pastor David Goodrich officiating, Saturday, April 20, 2013, at 11:00 a.m., reception to follow. He will be interred at the Eagle Point National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the Upper Rogue United Methodist Church.
