  • CENTRAL POINT — The Grants Pass softball team swept Crater in a Southern Oregon Hybrid doubleheader, earning a 5-2 win before cruising to a 12-1 triumph in six innings in the second game on Saturday at Crater High.
    In the opener, Grants Pass posted three runs in the third inning and led 5-1 entering the bottom of the seventh. Alex Craft's RBI single scored Malorie Mitchell from second base in the final frame, but the Comets' rally attempt ended soonafter.
    Sadie Zozaya went 2-for-3 and Stephanie Norrick tossed a seven-hitter with four strikeouts and one walk for the Cavers (6-10, 4-2 SOH).
    Crater's Alex Sheperd allowed just one hit with three strikeouts in 42/3 innings of relief.
    Lauren Estremado hit a run-scoring double in the third inning of Game 1 for the Comets (5-10, 1-6), who stranded eight.
    In Game 2, Grants Pass' Nicole Godwin was 2-for-4 with three runs and two RBIs and Amy Robinson pitched a five-hitter with four strikeouts and two walks.
    Craft went 2-for-3 for Crater, which made seven errors on the day.

    ROSEBURG 7-11, SOUTH MEDFORD 4-0 — At Roseburg, Makinna Akers earned both wins in the circle and had four hits overall for Roseburg in the SOH doubleheader.
    Allyssa Hunt finished 3-for-3 and Akers recorded nine strikeouts and two walks for the Indians in Game 1. Rachael Moore went 2-for-4 and Brittany Miller had a two-run single in the top of the seventh inning for South.
    In the second game, Akers, Megan Larkin and Sydney Reynolds were all 2-for-3 for Roseburg (8-3, 3-1 SOH), which scored all 11 of its runs in the first inning. Akers tossed a three-hitter with six strikeouts and no walks.
    Krystal Williams was 2-for-2 for the Panthers (4-13, 1-5).
