  • Eagle Point senior Johnny Wilkerson will be signing to play baseball at NCAA Division II Montana State University Billings in a ceremony today at Eagle Point High.
Wilkerson has had to sit out this baseball season for the Eagles after suffering a tear of his anterior cruciate ligament on his left knee during the quarterfinals of the Class 5A wrestling state tournament in February. He had surgery to repair the injury two weeks ago but had enough supporters from local coaches, especially summer league coach Joe Meerten, to make him a viable commodity for the Yellowjackets.
The power-hitting Wilkerson took an official visit recently to MSU Billings and found it to be a perfect fit, and he said the coaches weren't concerned with his injury and are willing to wait for him to be fully rehabilitated before stepping on the diamond.
