Petunia and The Vipers

Petunia describes his take on Americana as "Tom Waits meets Elvis at Woody Guthrie's hobo junction." Action, adventure, romance and mystery are all present in the music, which is a blend of original and classic ragtime, rockabilly, honky-tonk and cowboy blues.

Petunia, a guitarist and yodeler, and his Vipers — lap steel guitarist Jimmy Roy, electric guitarist Stephen Nikleva, drummer Marc L'Esperance and bassist Patrick Metzger — are bound for Los Angeles on their 10th West Coast tour since 2009. Along the way, they'll play at 9 p.m. Friday, April 19, at Alex's Plaza Restaurant, 35 N. Main St., Ashland.

Earlier this year, the band, based in Vancouver, B.C., ventured beyond North America for a series of concerts in the U.K. and Ireland and recorded several live sessions at the Riverwood Inn, a 1930s roadhouse in Phillipsville, Calif. The live album, as well as a studio album by Petunia, are scheduled for release this fall.

Cover to the band's show at Alex's is $5. Call 541-482-8818 or see www.petuniaandthevipers.com or www.petuniamusic.com.
