CAVE JUNCTION — Isaiah Luzny was unhittable against Illinois Valley on Tuesday.
The Cascade Christian junior pitcher tossed a five-inning perfect game as the Challengers defeated Illinois Valley 13-0 in Southern Cascade Hybrid baseball.
Luzny (2-1) struck out nine and needed 67 pitches to finish off the Cougars.
"The biggest thing is our team is pretty young and got intimidated," said Illinois Valley first-year coach Javier Aranzubia. "We had a little breakdown in our hitting fundamentals."
Sophomore catcher Cody Coggins had two doubles and a single to pace the Challengers' 10-hit attack. Coggins ripped a two-run double to highlight a five-run fourth inning that gave Cascade Christian (11-3, 3-0 SCH) a 13-0 lead.
Daniel Scottow added two hits, including an RBI triple in the third, and scored three runs. Tim Martin contributed two hits, two RBIs and three runs.
Illinois Valley (4-10, 0-1 SCH) starter Mason LaFlamme went 32/3 innings.
"(LaFlamme) is our ace," said Aranzubia, "and showed a lot of determination.
"I'm impressed with Cascade Christian," added the IV coach. "They're good contact hitters and defensively they are strong. Unfortunately, we didn't challenge them too much."
