  • ROGUE RIVER — Cascade Christian had 30 hits and did not commit an error en route to a resounding Southern Cascade Hybrid baseball sweep at Rogue River High School.
    The third-ranked Challengers walloped the Chieftains 13-2 in the opener, and took the second game 10-0. Both games were stopped after five innings due to the 10-run mercy rule.
    Kyle Ferguson had five hits on the day to lead Cascade Christian (13-3, 5-0 SCH) and Cody Coggins had five, including three in the second game.
    In the opener, Challengers starter Daniel Scottow struck out five in four solid innings and Tim Martin went 4-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs. Also for Cascade, Tyler West was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs and Ferguson, Coggins, Isaiah Luzny and Tristin Jones had two hits apiece. Luzny drove in three.
    In Game 2, Luzny shut down the Chieftains (6-9, 1-3) through the first four innings, and Ferguson (4-for-4), Coggins (3-for-4) and Jordan Ragan (3-for-3) provided most of the run support. Ferguson and Coggins scored three runs apiece, and Ragan drove in four runs.
    Luzny struck out three before giving way to Luke Dusenbury.
    Cascade's Game 2 victory was its eighth win in a row.
    Garrett Carpenter was 2-for-3 with an RBI double to lead the Chieftains.

    ST. MARY'S 8-6, ILLINOIS VALLEY 1-0 — Jake Isola pitched a two-hit shutout in Game 2 and Jacob Smith went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored in Game 1 for St. Mary's in the Southern Cascade Hybrid doubleheader at St. Mary's High.
    Dan Seus was 2-for-4 and Ryan Ross and Tanner Smith combined on a two-hitter with four strikeouts in the opener.
    In the second game, Joe Hammonds hit a two-run double with the bases loaded in the sixth inning, when the Crusaders (13-5, 3-2) scored five runs. Isola had four strikeouts and no walks against Illinois Valley (4-12, 0-3).

    HENLEY 12-15, PHOENIX 3-5 — At Talent, Phoenix tallied 21 hits overall but was hurt by eight walks in the Skyline Conference opener and six errors in Game 2 at Hagler-James Field.
    In Game 1, Zach Kentner went 3-for-4 with an RBI, Calvin Decker 2-for-3 with an RBI and Andrew Reynoso 2-for-4 for the Pirates (7-9, 1-5 Sky).
    In Game 2, Justin McCreadie finished 3-for-3 with an RBI double, Knute Thompson was 2-for-3 with an RBI and Travis Treadway added a two-run single against Henley (13-3, 5-1).

    HIDDEN VALLEY 2-8, NORTH VALLEY 0-7 — At Murphy, Jamie Schmidt's suicide squeeze in the bottom of the eighth inning drove in Jarid Norberg and gave Hidden Valley the Game 2 victory in Skyline Conference action.
    Norberg finished 2-for-3 with three RBIs in the second contest for the Mustangs (9-5, 3-3 Sky).
    Tyler Gulbransen tossed a four-hit shutout with nine strikeouts and no walks in the opener against North Valley (12-5, 4-2).
