Man awaiting trial in wife's murder charged in conspiracy to kill witness

Updated, 2:45 p.m.: Bourne Huddleston's arraignment on new charges that he conspired with his sister to kill a witness expected to testify against him in a murder trial was postponed this afternoon in Jackson County Circuit Court.

Judge Benjamin Bloom granted postponement until May 6 after Huddleston's attorney, Bob Abel, said he had not yet had time to review the new charges against his client.

Bloom set Huddleston's bail at $1 million on the new charges, but Bourne remains in the Jackson County Jail without bail on earlier charges that include murder (bail corrected from earlier version). Huddleston did not enter a plea on the new charges.

1 p.m.: A man in the Jackson County Jail on charges he murdered his wife is now suspected of conspiring with his sister in Florida to kill a witness expected to testify against him.

Bourne P. Huddleston, 44, and his sister Genetta Huddleston-Coradetti both were indicted last week on two counts each of attempted aggravated murder, criminal conspiracy to commit aggravated murder, solicitation to commit aggravated murder and one count each of attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and solicitation to commit murder.

The counts relating to aggravated murder are based on allegations of either attempted murder for hire or the attempted killing of a witness in a criminal proceeding. Prosecutors said the targeted victim was a witness in the grand jury proceeding on April 5, 2012, and will be a witness in Huddleston's coming murder trial.

Huddleston is set to be arraigned in Jackson County Circuit Court today on the new charges. Huddleston-Coradetti was arrested Friday in Florida and is being held there in the Martin County Jail awaiting extradition, officials said in a news release today.

The Jackson County Sheriff's Department launched an investigation into the latest charges nearly a month ago on March 25. They worked with a special agent from a local branch of the FBI on a joint investigation. Last week the special agent flew to Florida, where Huddleston-Coradetti resides, and she was subsequently arrested by the special agent and local deputies from the Martin County Sheriff's Office.

Huddleston's 34-year-old wife, Kristy, was shot in the head and died at their home on Pioneer Road in March 2012. He claimed she shot herself, but two witnesses came forward to report that he had tried to hire them to kill his wife.
