  • South Medford's No. 2 doubles team of Tanner Johnson and Nick Viscounty rebounded nicely from a second-set loss to pull out a three-set victory and help the Panthers edge Grants Pass 5-3 in Southern Oregon Hybrid boys tennis Tuesday at South Medford High.
    After winning a hard-fought opening set, Johnson and Viscounty were nipped in the second by Nik O'Hara and Nathan Trujillo in a tiebreaker, 7-5. The South Medford duo converted a service break early in the third set en route to a 4-1 lead before pulling away for a 6-4, 6-7 (5), 6-1 victory.
    The clutch finish was enough to put the Panthers (1-2-3, 1-1-2 SOH) over the top.

    GRANTS PASS 5, SOUTH MEDFORD 3 — At Grants Pass, South Medford No. 1 singles player Kelsey Bartlett won a tight opening set in a tiebreaker before finishing strong to beat Megan Ward, 7-6 (2), 6-0, and remain undefeated in SOH play at Grants Pass High.
    At No. 1 doubles, South Medford's Abi Borg and Riley Finnegan let a 4-1 second-set lead slip away in a 6-3, 6-4 loss to Abi Johnson and McKenna Stephenson. The Panthers improved to 1-2-2 in league matches, 1-3-2 overall.
