Six finalists — Ponderosa Breeze, Ryan Vosika, Kristen and Taylor, the Brian Griffith Trio, the Matt Hill Trio and duo Allison Scull and Victor Martin — competed over the weekend, April 26-27, at the Britt Pavilion to win South Stage Cellars' and Britt Festivals' Risings Stars music competition.
The local solo acts, duos and trios represented jazz, blues, folk and contemporary songwriting, and were selected by audience votes over the last six weeks at South Stage Cellars' tasting room in Jacksonville.
The final winner was determined by the number of votes and a panel of judges.
The Matt Hill Trio plays folk, rock and alt-country music. Hill, who was raised in Grants Pass, formed a full band in 2012. The trio was created to qualify for Rising Stars' criteria.
Prizes include an opportunity to open a main-stage show this summer at Britt Festivals; along with a professional recording session at Blackstone Audio; a 30-minute live show on Jefferson Public Radio; and a $1,000.
Throughout the six-week competition, audience members purchase votes for $2. This year's nonprofit recipient, La Clinica, received about $11,000.00.
