  • Mary Reichert, a cued speech specialist in Medford, will hold two informational meetings in May for parents of deaf or hard-of-hearing children.
The sessions will be at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 7, at the Medford library, 205 S. Central Ave., and 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 15, at the Ashland library, 410 Siskiyou Blvd.
Cued speech is a system utilizing hand shapes and natural lip movements of speech to make the spoken word more easily visible. In addition to helping people with hearing limitations, cued speech can help with other phonics, speech and language instruction and may be beneficial to children with other disabilities, promoters said.
For more information, see www.cuedspeech.org or contact Reichert at 541-613-7874 or by email at cueingoutwest@gmail.com.
