SOU head coach Lynn Kennedy announced the signing of eight recruits for the 2013-14 season.
Transfers Brenna Anderson, Cambie Edwards, Bree Park, Kristen Schoenherr and Karlie Wilhelmi and high school seniors Autumn Durand, Ashleigh Moore and Majerle Reeves join previous signee Demi Sahlinger to wrap up a nine-player recruiting class.
Anderson is a 6-foot-2 junior forward who spent last season at Bellevue College, where she averaged six points and five rebounds while helping the team to a 22-9 record. During her prep career at Burlington-Edison High School in Burlington, Wash., Anderson was a second-team 2A all-state honoree.
Edwards comes to SOU following two years at Whatcom Community College in Bellingham, Wash. Edwards, a 6-0 forward, averaged 12.8 points and 7.6 rebounds per game last season and earned second-team NWAACC North Region honors.
Southern Oregon will provide a reunion for Edwards and Anderson, who were high school teammates. Edwards joined Anderson as a 2A all-state honoree.
The teammate connection continues with Park, who played alongside Edwards at Whatcom. A 5-5 junior guard, Park earned first-team North Region honors last season after averaging 18.6 points and 6.2 rebounds per game while connecting on 42 percent of her 3-point attempts. Park is a Bellingham native who graduated from Meridian High School.
Scheonherr will be a sophomore for the Raiders next season after spending one year at Centralia College in Centralia, Wash. A 5-9 forward, Schoenherr was named MVP of the NWAACC West Region and freshman of the year after averaging 16.5 points and 8.8 rebounds on 59 percent shooting.
During her prep career at Rainier High School, Schoenherr earned Evergreen League MVP honors and was a three-time all-state honoree.
Wilhelmi enters her junior season at SOU after a stint at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg. Wilhelmi grabbed a season-high 11 rebounds in a game last year against Olympic College, and was voted most improved as a junior and a senior during her prep career at West Anchorage High School in Alaska.
All-state honoree Durand joins SOU after a successful prep career at Onalaska High School in Onalaska, Wash. Durand is a 5-10 forward who averaged 18.6 points during her senior season to earn Central League MVP recognition while leading her team to a 20-7 record and the 2B state tournament.
Moore finished her prep career this season on one of the nation's top high school teams. A native of Stockton, Calif., Moore averaged nine points for a Saint Mary's High School team that posted a 32-3 record, ranked third in the state of California and 10th in the USA Today national poll and made it to the championship game of the NorCal Open Division.
Reeves gives SOU seven Washington players in the 2013 recruiting class. From Longview, Wash., Reeves is a 5-8 guard who averaged 13.3 points during her senior season at Mark Morris High School. She earned all-league honors while leading her team to a 25-2 record and the 2A state championship.
