Providence honored for environmental work

Providence Medford Medical Center received a Partner Recognition Award from Practice Greenhealth, a national health care membership community that empowers its members to increase efficiencies and environmental stewardship while improving patient care.

The recognition is one of the Practice Greenhealth Environmental Excellence Awards given each year to honor environmental achievements in the health care sector. The criteria for the award includes: recycling 10 percent of the facility's total waste stream, doing a waste assessment summary and completing of a pollution-prevention or sustainability project.

Brian Herwig, chief operating officer for Providence Medford Medical Center, said in a statement about the award that Providence has adopted sustainable purchasing practices, recycles items and focuses on clean air.
