  • The fishing pond at Grants Pass' Reinhart Volunteer Park will be home to a family fishing event from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday.
The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife will join forces with the Crater Bass Club to host the event, during which ODFW staff and club volunteers will provide angling equipment and help visitors catch fish.
The agency holds events like this at times across the state to introduce families to fishing and to encourage outdoor recreation in general, says Chuck Fustish, an ODFW fish biologist.
Unlike events on Free Fishing Weekend in June, anglers aged 14 to 17 need a juvenile angling license. An adult angling license is needed by anyone 18 and older.
All state fishing regulations also will apply.
To get there, take Interstate to Exit 55 and then go two miles on Grants Pass Parkway. Turn right onto Southeast M Street, which turns into Southwest Bridge Street. Go one mile and turn left onto Lincoln Road/OR-260 and travel almost a half-mile. Turn left onto Webster Road to the park.
Look for a banner and racks of fishing rods by the pond.
