A Talent man who was driving the wrong way on Interstate 5 was killed late Friday night when his vehicle struck a pickup head-on near milepost 11.

A Talent man who was driving the wrong way on Interstate 5 was killed late Friday night when his vehicle struck a pickup head-on near milepost 11.

Oregon State Police troopers from the Central Point Area Command who responded to the scene said that a 2003 Pontiac Vibe driven by Derek Massey, 41, of Talent, was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes when it collided at about 11:35 p.m. with a 2006 Ford Expedition driven by Ryan Thompson, 36, of French Gulch, Calif.

Both men were alone in their vehicles, police said.

According to the OSP report, Thompson sustained non-life-threatening injuries, while Massey was pronounced dead at the scene. Massey's next of kin has been notified, police said.

Investigation into the cause of the crash is continuing.
