  • South Medford's No. 1 doubles team of Tanner Johnson and Nick Viscounty clinched a hard-fought win on Johnson's overhead smash in the tiebreaker, but South Eugene secured the boys tennis team victory, 5-3, in Southwest Conference action Saturday at South Medford High School.
    Johnson and Viscounty rebounded from a second-set letdown to beat Zach Eksrig and Ricky Pacama, 6-4, 2-6, 11-9.
    The visiting Axemen won three of four singles matches to beat the Panthers (3-4-3, 3-4-1 SWC), with South Medford No. 4 singles player Brad Johnson beating Hagen Brown, 6-4, 6-4.
    South Medford next travels north for the first day of the SWC district tournament, Thursday in Roseburg.
