Talent Art and Music Festival planned for Friday

The city of Talent will host an Art and Music Festival downtown starting at 5 p.m. Friday, May 10.

Events will include stained glass, live music, photography, food, art by local artists and contests with prizes.

Participating businesses and organizations include A Colorful Talent, Arbor House Restaurant, Bell House Gallery, City Hall Gallery/Talent Public Arts Committee, Cupcake Daily, Friends of the Talent Library, The Grotto Pizzeria, Harmonic Design & Imaging, Healing Arts Center of Talent, Mystic Treats, Nancy Archerd Photography, Ray's Food Place, Studio 5, Talent Liquor, The Total Picture and Tree House Oriental Antiques.

Specialist to hold meetings for parents of deaf children

Mary Reichert, a cued speech specialist in Medford, will hold two informational meetings in May for parents of deaf or hard of hearing children and other disabilities or disorders.

The sessions will be at 6:30 tonight at the Medford library, 205 S. Central Ave., and 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 15, at the Ashland library, 410 Siskiyou Blvd.

Cued speech is a system utilizing hand shapes and natural lip movements of speech to make the spoken message more easily visible.

Sign up for free adult classes on using computers

The Jackson Country Library is encouraging early registration for free adult basic computer demonstrations to be held in June. The four-week demonstrations are hands-on and are available in English and Spanish. Each session is two hours long. Seating is limited, and reservations are encouraged.
