The museum on the the Southern Oregon University campus will exhibit “Fighting Men,” works by Jack Kirby (1917-1994), Leon Golub (1922-2004) and Peter Voulkos (1924-2000) through Saturday, June 8.
Curator Daniel Duford writes that the specter of violence and the consequences of power animate this exhibit. Voulkos' sculpture is a spectacle of brute force; Kirby's superhero comics crackle with cosmic energy; and Golub’s large-scale canvases display a similar material chutzpah as Voulkos’ vessels.
The museum is at the corner of Siskiyou Boulevard and Indiana Street in Ashland. Hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Call 541-552-6245 or see www.sou.edu/sma.
