Scott Law at The Playwright

Scott Law plays straight from the heart of Americana. The Portland songwriter is fluent on electric and acoustic guitar, and plays rock, bluegrass, R&B, folk and vintage country.

He's collaborated with Darol Anger in Republic of Strings, Tony Furtado in the Banjo Killers, and Tim and Nicki Bluhm in Brokedown in Bakersfield, but lately he's been focusing on his acoustic duos and the Scott Law Electric trio with bassist Damian Erskine and drummer Russ Kleiner.

Law will play acoustic originals and instrumentals, as well as songs by Jerry Reed, Bill Monroe, Bob Dylan and others, at 8 p.m. Saturday, May 11, at The Playwright Public House, 258 A St., Ashland. The cover is $10. Call 541-488-9128.

"Black Mountain," a collection of Law's original acoustic music, will be released this fall. The stringband-style album has "lots of flat pickin' guitar and burnin' fiddle" and features bassist Sam Grisman of The Deadly Gentleman, vocalist Aoife O'Donovan of Crooked Still, the Bluhms and Anger.

In 2012, Law released two recordings — an electric, five-song EP "Scott Law Reunion Band" and a full-length studio album "Just Passin' Thru."
