  • Joyce Marie Reavis, previously of Medford, Ore., passed away peacefully April 29, 2013 in her home in Salem, Ore. after a lengthy battle with cancer. She was born in Newport, Wash. December 27, 1922, to R. Ed Carpenter and Ruth Halbesleben Carpenter. She spent her youth there and met and married her husband, Lowell Reavis. They started their family there and in 1955 moved to Medford.
Joyce spent years as a full-time mother, but re-entered the work force after a few years in Medford. She spent some years working in the office of Snider's Dairy and at McDonald Candy Company. In the mid-1960s she began working in accounts receivable for the Medford Mail Tribune. She continued working there until her retirement in 1987.
After her retirement, she began a new chapter in her life. She learned to golf, which she really loved. She also began traveling. Over the course of many years, she traveled over most of the globe primarily on cruises which allowed her to experience another of her great loves, dancing. When she wasn't golfing or traveling, she spent many hours doing needlework. She made many beautiful pictures with counted cross-stitch and made many quilts for her family. She also spent many hours knitting. She knitted many, many stocking caps for needy children. She also had a great love of flowers and gardening. She became a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church and spent years performing duties as a deacon. As well, she volunteered many hours as the uhser coordinator and helped compile the weekly bulletin. Joyce was a very traditional woman who strongly believed in family.
Joyce is survived by three daughters, Leah Queen, Susan Biglin, and Judith Gilson; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister; and her husband.
A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, May 11, 2013, at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2000 Oakwood Dr, Medford, Ore.
