North Medford High wrestling coach Phillip Lopez isn't the type to get carried away.
MERRILL — Cascade Christian's girls team won the Southern Cascade Hybrid championship, and the Challenger boys were second to host Lost River on Saturday.

Brittany Brown and Gracie Bevan each had a hand in two victories for the Challengers. Brown won the 100 meters in 13.34 seconds, and Bevan captured the 100 hurdles in 17.14.
Both ran on the winning 4x100 relay with Katelyn Stephens and Mallory Mann. Their time was 51.74.
Cascade Christian's boys got strong performances from sprinter Brandon Williams and thrower Aaron Cesaro.
Williams took the 100 in 11.04, the second-best time for state 3A runners. Cesaro improved his personal best in the shot put with a mark of 48-101/2, which ranks him fourth in the state.
The district meet, which determines state qualifiers, is next Saturday at Lakeview.

SWC DISTRICT — At Roseburg, Roseburg freshman Stefan Ball won the Southwest Conference district singles championship, rolling through his four matches without dropping a single game to lead the Indians to the team title at Stewart Park.
South Medford freshman Kylar Tosh beat teammate Mitchell Steadman in the third-place match, 6-2, 6-1. Both Tosh and Steadman, a sophomore, qualified for the Class 6A state tournament.
Ball beat No. 2 seed Isaac Leve of South Eugene, 6-0, 6-0, in the singles final. In doubles, the top-seeded duo of Sam Stadter and CJ Ball of Roseburg beat the No. 2-seeded team of Jake Russin and Jack Guenther of South Eugene, 6-2, 6-1, in the championship match.
Roseburg racked up 40 points to outdistance second-place South Eugene in the race for the team title. South Medford was fourth with 22.
MWL DISTRICTS — At Eugene, Grant Kahn beat teammate Mischa Kirby to claim third place in singles and Max Burt and Michael Montes teamed up to claim third in doubles as Ashland finished third in the Midwestern League championships at the Eugene Swim and Tennis Club Friday.
Marist and Churchill ended up tied for first with 30 points apiece, and Ashland was third with 26.
Kahn beat Kirby 6-0, 6-4 in the third-place singles match. In the third-place doubles match, Burt and Montes beat Aaron Kenny and Andrew Bennion of Churchill, 0-6, 6-4, 6-4.
Neu Nipatasaj of Marist claimed the singles title with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Nathan Hampton of Churchill. In doubles, AJ Bartko and Austin Tyner of Marist toppled Chuck Taylor and Kurtis Bineham of Churchill, 6-3, 6-4.
SWC DISTRICT — South Medford doubles partners Riley Finnegan and Abi Borg and singles player Kelsey Bartlett — who had already locked up state berths — lost in their semifinal matches at South Medford High.
South Eugene took home the team title with 47 points. Roseburg placed second (25) and South Medford third (22). Grants Pass was fourth (20) and North Medford was seventh with two points.
South Eugene's Elaine Fang and McKenna Vanderkley defeated Finnegan and Borg, 6-3, 6-3. The Axemen duo went on to beat Grants Pass' Abi Johnson and McKenna Stephenson, 6-4, 2-6, 7-5, in the finals.
In singles action, Emily Beckley of South Eugene topped Bartlett 6-3, 6-2. South Eugene's Wren Eustis later won the title after Beckley retired.
The state championships begin Thursday at Tualatin Hills Tennis Center.
