Standoff at Super 8 ends with three arrested

Two others arrested on unrelated charges

A 11/2; hour police standoff ended without incident Saturday night at the Super 8 Motel on Hamrick Road in Central Point, leading to the arrest of three men.

Sheriff deputies, Medford police, Central Point police and state troopers surrounded the motel after a sheriff's deputy spotted a stolen vehicle driving east on Pine Street near the Pilot gas station.

Witnesses saw three men run from the vehicle outside the Super 8 around 8:30 p.m., according to the Jackson County Sheriff's Department.

After the standoff ended after 10 p.m., deputies arrested Juvenal Adan Vega, 27, of the 1700 block of Louise Avenue in Medford, Robert Lee Powelson and Miguel A. Delfin. No ages or cities of residence were provided for Powelson or Delfin.

Both Powelson and Delfin were arrested on outstanding warrants and Vega was arrested for possession of a stolen vehicle and unauthorized use of a vehicle, according to the Sheriff's Department. Vega was lodged in jail and released because of overcrowding.

The standoff began after a Jackson County sheriff's deputy noticed a stolen vehicle driving east on Pine Street near the Pilot gas station around 8:30 p.m. The vehicle stopped at the Super 8 motel and witnesses told the deputy they saw three males running from the vehicle and entering the motel, according to the Sheriff's Department.

The stolen car was a Chevrolet Cruze with Utah plates reported stolen to Medford police.

Authorities from various agencies surrounded the hotel, and deputies identified two rooms on the second floor that the suspects likely fled into.

Occupants in surrounding rooms were ordered to vacate for their safety.

Law enforcement officials initially suspected the occupants of Room 225 were involved with the stolen vehicle.

Later, deputies discovered the occupants of the room were not connected to the stolen vehicle. However, the occupants, Denyce Lynette Tedford and Ronald Ray Tedford Jr., 34, were arrested on unrelated charges, deputies said.

Ronald Tedford was charged with a parole violation for distribution of marijuana. Deputies said Denyce Tedford was arrested on a warrant for an earlier possession of methamphetamine charge. She was lodged in jail and released because of overcrowding.

The Tedfords came out when requested, but it was later discovered they were not connected to the stolen vehicle.

When deputies ordered the occupants of Room 223 to come out, they refused.

Shortly after 10 p.m., deputies entered the room and arrested Powelson, Vega and Delfin.
