Luther M. Wilt, 86, of the beautiful Applegate Valley, Ore., passed away Monday, May 6, 2013. Luther was born February 11, 1927 to parents Luther and Isabelle (Welker) Wilt in York, Penn. While in high school he was an Eagle Scout and participated in wrestling, basketball, and played quarterback for his football team. After high school he joined the Navy and proudly served during World War II.
After the Navy he attended Pennsylvanias Ursinus College where he earned two bachelor's degrees, one in science and the other in physical education. He won a National Science Foundation grant and earned his earth science master's degree at Arizona State University.
While at Ursinus College he met Janice Groff. Their love of physical challenges and adventure made them "Perfect Partners." They were married August 20, 1949 and over the next 63 years they ranched in the high country of Colorado, climbed mountains, trained and jumped horses, hunted, developed and sold several successful businesses, built their own homes, raised and trained Komondor livestock dogs, and still found time to volunteer their time to several charitable organizations.
Luther is survived by his wife, Janice; sister, Frances Callahan of York, Penn.; nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
