St. Mary's Dylan Wu bested defending champion Kevin Murphy of Rogue River to capture the Class 3A/2A/1A boys golf state championship today at Emerald Valley Golf Club in Creswell.

Wu, a junior, also led the Crusaders to their third straight state title, one shy of the all-classification record for Oregon high schools. They shot a second straight 299 for a 598 total, winning by 77 strokes over runner-up Rogue River.

Wu overcame a double bogey on the par-4 16th hole with a birdie-par finish. He shot a 1-over-par 73 to finish the two-day championships at even-par 144. The senior Murphy was within one stroke of Wu through 16 holes, but he bogeyed the 17th before a birdie at No. 18 gave him a 75 and a 146 total.

Both players have committed to play Division I golf, Wu at Northwestern and Murphy at Oregon State.
