  • Mary Wooding is running for a seat on the Rogue Valley Transportation District board in the regular district election held May 21. Mary is challenging incumbent Rick Dyer for the Position 7 seat.
Wooding, of Ashland, has been involved with RVTD since 1997. She served eight years as a board member and has been a budget committee member since 2005.
Mary has shown great dedication toward improving our community infrastructure and brings many years of experience to share with the board. — Katherine McUne, Medford
I am writing in support of Cheryl Dykes for Position 3 on the Medford School Board.
I would pose a question to potential voters: who better to elect than one who has been a long-term employee? Who knows exactly where wasteful spending has occurred, who knows about the crowded conditions, the understaffing and safety concerns? The Mail Tribune stated in "Our View" on May 5, that "it's not clear if she could separate herself from her former role if she is forced to make tough budget and negotiation choices."
What former role are they speaking of: A parent? A grandparent? Tax-paying community member? Loyal employee of 25-plus years? All of those are very valid reasons to be a competent, intelligent and committed board member with a deep interest in the success of the Medford School District. Cheryl Dykes is the best candidate for Position 3. — Candace Hinkle, Medford
Please vote for Larry Nicholson for the Medford School Board and return one of the best school board directors I have known to the board.
Larry served on the board during very tumultuous times and his professional and collaborative approach to addressing the issues resulted in a better educational environment for all students.
Larry Nicholson believes in putting students' needs first. He has no tolerance for individual agendas that interfere with those needs. However, Larry's honest and straightforward approach in resolving areas of dispute brings positive results among those with differing opinions.
I enjoyed serving with Larry in the past and was amazed at his leadership. I am so impressed that he is willing to return to the board and offer his personable and professional style to 549C. Please join me in voting for Larry Nicholson for Medford School Board. — Mike Moran, Medford
My wife and I are parents of four children in the Central Point School District. We frequently volunteer in their school and for field trips and events.
We need a new school board that actually listens to and represents the families and students of the district — the current one does not. I have contacted members of the current board about their error of hiring a new principal with ongoing litigation and investigations. My emails have gone unanswered. I have attended School Board meetings to talk with board members and also been ignored.
Other parents have told me of their years-long efforts to engage the board on the topic of Crater High School's Small Schools program and have also been categorically disregarded.
Please join me in voting for Tracy Jackson and Ed Lindbloom and writing in Ryan Dale for Position 2 and Gordon Eckstrom for Position 4. — Brant Harnois, Central Point
