  • Downtown Medford, particularly Vogel Plaza, will be a happenin' place this Friday evening. A dozen professional swing dancers will break away from the Southern Oregon Swing Convention, held this weekend at the Red Lion Hotel, to perform at 6:30 p.m. Friday, May 17, in the plaza. There also will be live country, soul and rock 'n' roll by the Diamonds and Denim Band until 8 p.m.

    Rogue Gallery & Art Center will showcase glassworks by four local artists in its new exhibit, "Glass Act," as well as new works by 27 gallery artists in its Members' Gallery. "Glass Act" will be displayed through Friday, June 21, and features bright, kiln-formed vessels by Evie Ault; abstract, stained-glass by Darla Baack; landscapes made from layers of glass by Mike Korpa; and blown-glass sculptures by Randall Perkins.
    An opening reception with wine by Weisinger's of Ashland and food by Harry & David will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the gallery, 40 S. Bartlett St. For more information, call 541-772-8118 or see www.roguegallery.org.
    "Color Explosion," a collection of bold abstract works, and "Art in Bloom," floral and spring-inspired paintings in a variety of media by 15 gallery artists, will be displayed this month in the Salon and on the featured wall, respectively, at Art du Jour, 213 E. Main St. Individual exhibits by more than 20 gallery members also will be displayed.

    Several other downtown businesses and restaurants will be open for Third Friday.
    This weekend, in conjunction with the Third Friday art walk, several Medford consignment stores, including three downtown, have partnered for the Southern Oregon Shop Hop and will offer discounts on clothes in exchange for three cans of food for ACCESS.
    Parking in downtown Medford and in the parking structure on Sixth Street is free after 5 p.m. weekdays and all day Saturday and Sunday, and this weekend only, the All Aboard Trolley will be available to transport folks up and down Main Street during the art walk.
