Reporters, photographers and editors from the Mail Tribune were among those recognized for their work Saturday night at the 2012 Northwest Excellence in Journalism Contest.
Competing in the category for daily newspapers with circulations of 25,000 or less, the Mail Tribune was grouped with entries from across Oregon, Alaska, Washington, Idaho and Montana in Region 10 of the dozen regions of the Society of Professional Journalists.
Photographer Jamie Lusch and sports editor Tim Trower received a pair of awards each.
Lusch took first place in Feature Photography and second place in News Photography.
Trower received first-place honors for his Sports Column and a second-place award in the Sports Feature Story category.
Copy editor Dave Sager received the Mail Tribune's other first-place award, in the Page Design category.
Second-place honors were taken by reporter Mark Freeman (Investigative Reporting), photo editor Bob Pennell (Portrait Photography), editorial Page editor Gary E. Nelson (Editorial & Commentary) and news editor Robert Galvin (Page Design).
Photographer Julia Moore received a third-place award in the feature Photography category.
The awards were announced at several sites across Region 10, with the Oregon ceremony held in Portland.
