  • LAKEVIEW — Brandon Williams and Gracie Bevan were key figures as Cascade Christian captured the boys and girls championships at the Class 3A track and field District 1 Regional.
    Williams won the 100 meters in 11.44 seconds and the 200 in 22.72 to lead the Challenger boys to 197 points. They outdistanced second-place St. Mary's, which had 96.
    Williams also ran legs on the winning 4x100 and 4x400 relays, and teammate Aric Alcantara completed a double in the horizontal jumps, winning the triple (42-11) after taking the long on Friday. He also was on both relays.
    Rogue River's Seth Gretz capped off a fine meet with a win in the 110 hurdles (15.99) and second place in the 300 hurdles (40.91). He won the pole vault a day earlier at 11-8.
    The top two placers in each event qualified for the state meet Thursday and Friday in Eugene.
    The Cascade Christian girls scored 145.5 points. St. Mary's was second with 112.5.
    Bevan claimed the 100 hurdles in 17.0, was second in the 300 hurdles in 49.0 and was on the winning short relay team.
    Teammate Stephanie Croy added the 1,500 crown (5:26.95) to the 3,000 she won Friday.
    St. Mary's garnered the top three places in the pole vault, led by winner Hannah Graunke (10-3).

    5A SPECIAL DISTRICT 1 — At Redmond, Eagle Point senior Caleb Ash placed second in the boys 200 to become the only local qualifier for state during the second day of the district meet at Redmond High.
    Ash, who also placed third in the 100, crossed the finish line in 22.80. Mitch Modin of Mountain View won the 200 in 22.54 and Braden Bell of Bend was third (23.0).
    Redmond edged Summit and Mountain View 143 points to 132 to claim the boys team title, while Summit was the runaway girls champion with 245 points.
    In other local results: Eagle Point junior Seth Arena placed fourth in the boys 200 (23.37); Ashland freshman Dominic Meads was fifth in the boys discus (123-5); and Ashland's Sadie Bailey, Geraldine Graham, Cassidy Walters and Diana Gilliland were fourth in the girls 4x100 relay (51.36).

    SKYLINE DISTRICT MEET — At Grants Pass, Phoenix freshman Emma Hickman won Skyline Conference titles in the shot put (34-2) and discus (113-4) while North Valley's D'Aripino twins — Kerissa and Venessa — dominated the sprints during Day 2 action at Grants Pass High.
    Kerissa D'Arpino edged her sister Venessa for district titles in the 100 (12.05), 200 (25.08) and 400 (55.80), while Sierra Brown topped Phoenix's Nevina De Luca in the 1,500 (4:48.45) to help the Mustangs finish second to Henley for the girls team title.
    North Valley claimed the boys title over HIdden Valley, with the Knights landing district titles in the 100 (Jordan Hannah), 200 (Austin Neill), 110 hurdles (Isaiah McLittle), high jump (JJ Chirnside) and short relay.
    The top two finishers and those who met state qualifying standards advanced to next weekend's Class 4A state meet.
