Empty Bowls Supper set for Friday

Soup will be served in style at the annual Empty Bowls Supper, a fundraiser sponsored by Peace House, from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 24, at the First United Methodist Church, 175 N. Main St., Ashland.

Soup by local restaurants will be served in handcrafted bowls donated by local potters. Local dignitaries will serve, Jeff Golden will emcee, and harpists Elizabeth Markel and James Excell, as well as banjoist Asha Slater, will perform.

Tickets cost $25 and are available at the door after 5 p.m. or in advance at Paddington Station, Northwest Nature Shop and www.peacehouse.net. People with advanced tickets may arrive as early as 4 p.m. to choose their bowl. Children ages 11 and younger get in free.

Proceeds benefit local food programs Uncle Foods Diner, ACCESS Inc. and Food Angels.
