  • Rogue Creamery's co-owners, David Gremmels and Cary Bryant, received the Small Business Administration Director's Impact Award at the Small Business Week Luncheon Monday at the Portland Art Museum.
Rogue Creamery has been named one of the Top 100 Best Green Companies in Oregon four straight years and Gremmels serves on Oregon's Sustainability Board.
Since acquiring the struggling creamery in 2002, Gremmels and Bryant have grown the company nearly 500 percent, incorporating waste reduction, whey reuse and recycled packaging.
The Creamery offers the only vertically integrated third-party certified sustainable cheese in the U.S, and is certified sustainable by Food Alliance and Steritech. The dairy supplying Rogue Creamery's milk is certified sustainable by Food Alliance.
Wells Fargo and U.S. Bank were lauded for their contribution to small business. Wells Fargo made 84 loans and guaranteed $41 million, while U.S. Bank guaranteed 129 loans worth $31 million.
Among the banks making 20 loans or at least $10 million were: Bank of the Cascades, $2 million, 20 loans; JPMorgan Chase, $7 million, 49 loans; Key Bank, $13 million, 97 loans; and Peoples Bank of Commerce, $2 million, 35 loans.
