  • Updated 5:30 p.m. Jackson County Jail officials say the suspect in a Central Point 7-Eleven armed robbery in March has died in a suicide.
Kyle Louis Mellon, 19, of Medford, was discovered Monday by jail staff performing a routine check of the cells.
Jail deputies performed CPR on Mellon for about 11 minutes before he was loaded on a Mercy Flights Ambulance and taken to Providence Medical Center in Medford.
The Jackson County Sheriff's Department did not specify how Mellon committed suicide in a press release sent out this afternoon.
Mellon was declared dead Tuesday night, but remains on life support awaiting surgery for organ harvesting, officials said.
Mellon was in jail awaiting trial on charges that he robbed a 7-Eleven in Central Point in March.
The multi-agency Major Assault and Death Investigation Unit is investigating the case, officials said.
