Ashland rowers claimgold medal at regional

VANCOUVER, Wash. — The Ashland Rowing Club's junior men's team earned a gold medal in the high school-8 division at the U.S. Rowing Northwest Regional Regatta last weekend at Vancouver Lake.

Led by coxswain McKenna O'Dougherty, the squad comprised of rowers from Ashland High brushed past Eugene by a 2.5-second margin. It was the first year the junior team competed at regionals.

In the women's novice doubles, Stephani Kutcher and Sophie Rowan-LaBelle placed second and Helen Theime and Marianne Powell were fourth.

Illinois Valley earns OSAA sportsmanship award

Illinois Valley High in Cave Junction received the Oregon School Activities Association Sportsmanship Award for Class 3A schools.

Each OSAA regular district was to nominate a school that displayed the best sportsmanship over the course of the year. A selection committee review submissions and selected winners.

Other schools chosen were Canby (6A), Hood River Valley (5A), McLoughlin (4A), Western Mennonite (2A) and Imbler (1A).
