Former Oregon player decides on trial

HILLSBORO — Former Oregon football player Cliff Harris will face trial in Hillsboro on a domestic harassment charge.

Harris appeared in Washington County District Court Monday and declined the opportunity to enter a one-year diversion program.

Harris is charged in connection with a May 3 argument with his girlfriend outside a restaurant.

His lawyer John Tyner told The Oregonian Harris is innocent and the diversion program isn't necessary. Trial could begin as soon as June 20.

Harris was released earlier this month by the New York Jets after he was arrested and accused of marijuana possession.
