    Becker, Mayben land top SOH honors

  • North Medford's Maryssa Becker was named Southern Oregon Hybrid pitcher of the year for the third straight season in all-conference voting conducted by the league's coaches.
    The Black Tornado's Mike Mayben was named coach of the year, and the team placed a league-high six players on the first team. Roseburg had five.
    Roseburg senior Megan Larkin, an infielder, was player of the year.
    North Medford, No. 1 in the OSAA rankings, went unbeaten in 12 SOH games and took a 25-2 record into a scheduled Class 6A second-round playoff game Wednesday against Southridge.
    Becker, a senior right-hander who has signed to play for Louisville, finished the regular season with a 14-1 record and a 0.63 ERA. She also had 179 strikeouts in 992/3 innings against just 16 walks.
    Other first-team selections for the Black Tornado were senior catcher Katie Williamson, junior infielder Joci Ellis, senior outfielder Michelle Draper, sophomore outfielder Grace Jovanovic and junior utility/designated hitter Katie Ramsay.
    Crater had two first-team choices in senior infielder Malorie Mitchell and senior outfielder Allie Winningham.
